2. General

We take the protection of your personal data seriously and treat it confidentially and in accordance with statutory data protection regulations. This policy explains the nature, scope and purpose of the processing of personal data on this website.

Personal data is any data that can be used to identify you personally.

3. Hosting and server log files

This website runs on a server we operate ourselves within the EU (Germany). The data centre is provided by a German provider who acts as a processor for us pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR; a corresponding data processing agreement is in place.

When you access the site, the server automatically collects and stores information in server log files, which your browser transmits automatically: the page accessed, date and time of access, amount of data transferred, browser type and version, operating system, referrer URL and the IP address.

This data is used solely to provide the website in a technically correct, secure and stable manner and is not merged with other data sources. The legal basis is our legitimate interest pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Log files are continuously overwritten automatically once the storage reserved for them is exhausted — in practice this corresponds to a period of a few weeks. No longer-term archiving takes place.

4. Analytics with Umami

To analyse the use of the website we use Umami, a self-hosted, privacy-friendly analytics tool. Umami is cookieless and collects no personal data: no IP addresses are stored and no cross-device or cross-session recognition takes place. No data is transferred to third parties.

Because the collected data is anonymous and no cookie is set, no consent is required. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the statistical analysis of usage pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

5. Cookies and local storage

This website sets no cookies and stores no data on your device in any other way either. There is no tracking cookie, no consent banner and no entry in your browser’s local storage.

Consent under § 25 TDDDG is therefore not required: no information is stored on your device or read from it.

6. Fonts

All fonts used on this website are served locally from our own server. There is no connection to third-party servers (such as Google Fonts); no data is transferred to third parties in this process.

7. Content management

The textual content of this website is generated at build time from a self-hosted content management system (Directus) and delivered as static pages; for that content, your visit does not establish a connection from your browser to that content management system at runtime.

Embedded images (e.g. blog post images), however, are still served directly from that content management system, which likewise runs on our own infrastructure; this creates the same kind of server logfiles described in section 3. No data is shared with third parties, and no cookies are set in the process.

8. Contacting us

If you contact us by email, the information you provide is stored in order to process your request. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (initiation/performance of a contract) or our legitimate interest in responding to your request pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The data is deleted once it is no longer required and no statutory retention obligations apply.

9. Your rights

You have the right at any time to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object (Art. 21 GDPR). You can withdraw any consent given at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR); the competent authority is, in particular, the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Brandenburg. To exercise your rights, a message to the contact details above is sufficient.

10. SSL/TLS encryption

For security reasons this website uses TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the “https://” in your browser’s address bar.

11. Changes to this policy

We update this privacy policy whenever changes to our data processing make it necessary. The version published on this page at the time applies.
